Nordic TIMBERSPORTS® champion to be crowned: athletes from across the Nordics ready to compete
On July 19-20, the best TIMBERSPORTS® athletes from across the Nordics will gather in Malung, Sweden, to compete for the title of Nordic Champion. Athletes from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are prepared to take on the challenge, each represented in various competition classes.
The Nordic athletes have shown strong development throughout the 2024 season, marked by both international and Nordic competitions. A total of 24 athletes will gather during Dansbandsveckan in Malung, competing individually in at least four and up to six disciplines, depending on their class and performance.
Last year, Emil Hansson secured his second consecutive victory in the Pro class, with Ferry Svan close behind. This year, the two athletes are expected to compete fiercely for the top spot once again, continuing the tight rivalry seen in recent years.
"I'm definitely aiming for the victory at the Nordic Championship; anything less than gold would be a loss. I'm more focused than ever in my preparations, and with such tight competition, the winner will be the one who makes the fewest mistakes," says Ferry Svan.
"A third consecutive victory would be great, but it will be tough. I've had a good season and feel in good form. The extensive training and competitions have given me a lower minimum level, and now it's about delivering a consistent performance throughout the Nordic Championship," says Emil Hansson.
In the women's class, Tove Njåstad claimed the gold last year, and the Rookie class saw a Swedish victory by Edvin Karlsson. This year, several athletes have moved up to the Pro class, including Denmark's Esben Pedersen and Sweden's Edvin Karlsson. In the Rookie class, Denmark's Bo Andersen has shown strong development. Andersen finished fourth last year but won gold in the most recent Nordic Cup competition and is eager to compete again.
"I am 100% focused on the Nordic Championship. It's within reach and is likely the highlight of my 2024," says Bo Andersen.
After the Nordic Championship, the final leg of the Nordic Cup 2024 will be held in Elverum, Norway, on August 9-11, followed by the International Women’s Cup in Germany and the European Trophy in Switzerland – leading up to the season's highlight: the World Championship in Toulouse on November 8-9.
